At Breathe

Nature is our single subject matter

Discover what nature could teach us

Math

Math can be found everywhere in nature from simple addition to sacred geometry. Being creative and seeing the beauty in math and in nature is our approach. We have found and personally experienced that tangible and applicable study leads to deeper understanding and future use of these valuable skills.

Cultural Crafts and Musical Creations

The creation of cultural crafts is a pathway to tradition, resonance with ancestry, creator and the spirit that is in all of life. Discovering through crafting practical items, our children learn sewing, pottery, weaving, tool making and shelters influenced from all over the world and throughout our collective history.

A Peoples History

We want to give children depictions of multiple perceptions of historical events that have shaped the world we all share now. In highlighting times of peace and alternatives to war, we can teach the power of cooperation and how to utilize peace making skills. One intention within that framework is to help children grasp a less heard historical narrative that is centered around the more vulnerable populations.

Health and Body Awareness

The children learn about our bodies as vessels and how to listen and trust their bodies to achieve deeper understanding of themselves, fostering self acceptance and self love.

Astronomy and Astrology

The teaching of astronomy and astrology provides a gateway to complex philosophical thought processes, bigger picture awareness and inhibits the quiet mind. These experiences allow children time and space to explore their minds.

Nutrition and Cooking

Original community space was in the kitchen...We provide real life skills that promote self reliance and self care. Once children have experience with food preparation, their confidence grows with their abilities. They will be more likely to engage with their parents at home, and take more responsibility for meal preparation.

Gardening, Permaculture and Companion Planting

When children learn to grow their own food and are able to see the food cycle full circle, it directly effects their relationship to themselves, food, food systems and the Earth. In using permaculture as a framework, children will learn beneficial skills that cross over into many aspects of their lives.

Stealth and Stillness

Sink into the pace of the forest and become one with your surroundings. Track animals near and far along with your friends and surprise even yourself with what you begin to notice in your outer world and inner world alike.

Herbal Medicine and Mycology

We have coevolved with plants and they provide us with food and medicine, among many other gifts. Our ancestors had a large knowledge base of the medicinal properties of plants and fungi, and the connection that comes with that understanding can be fostered through education. Teaching herbalism and mycology also offers insights into biochemistry and the sciences.

Yoga, Mindfulness and Self Massage

Teaching children to know how to synchronize their bodily rhythms with their breath gives them an outlet to have better emotional and physical competency.

Bee and Butterfly Conservation

Highlighting how insects like bees and butterflies contribute to the life cycle is pertinent to understanding how important they are for the life on Earth. When children create habitats for these buzzing and fluttering friends, they gain appreciation for pollinators, flowers, soil, the sun and everything in between. Eventually the honey that is created with all this energy exchange will be harvested and become a central teaching piece in many of our lessons! By working closely with and caring for beetles, butterflies and bees children learn reciprocity by giving back to the very beings that tremendously support their own lives.
